As we bear witness to a SAD turn of events for the seemingly (and this is not a pun on physical apperance) unshakeable Captain Amrinder Singh, we are once again reminded of the stubborn pattern created by the coming-and-then-going of promising and pig-headed leaderships. Here was a man with an incredible opportunity. A democratically elected Maharaja who could not rise above the smallness of power politics to make a real difference in Punjab. It isn’t party interests at stake here but the risk of a people being nearly forced to condone an ideology of fanatical regionalism. Disturbing.

Apparently, the sensex unexpectedly dropped a 100+ points yesterday. And as a friend deeply committed to studing Asian Markets for no tangible personal benefit pointed out, China’s stock market took a 9 per cent dip. I am very disappointed that Shri Nitish Kumar wasn’t asked to explain this distrubing turn of events. Now we’ll never know if the true Socialist conscience would pin natural blame on the Railway Budget. I imagine Mr V.K Malhotra thinks all this is really reflective of the world’s overall lack of confidence in the incumbent Indian Government. But unfortuantely, they’ve stopped quoting Mr Malhotra on important world events. Sad really, considering his pertinent views on all things worldy.

In other news of deep signifincance, Ms Rabri Devi is now convinced beyond all doubt that Lalu ji is the best Railway Minister India has ever had. This piece of information is certainly very relevant in terms of the Indian Media’s undying quest for unbiased and educative sound bytes.

Mort - and this one’s just for you mon. Captain Lumberjack thinks we have a real chance of lifting the world cup. Not sure if he means he can just sort of ‘lift’ it. But very reassuring considering we’ve been in super form the last three games and only been in pathetic form for like a dozen games before that.

I like asking questions.

I was actually going through some wedding photograps a newly married friend was showing me. I almost said ‘WHY’ but then, thats a story for another post!. Yes, so I was going through these pics and I come across her and her hubby-band. All dressed up the day after. Bright and early too, because it looked like they were eating breakfast. I cannot get over how neat they looked. And they looked so newly-married. And clean shaven (HIM) and not a hair out of place (HER). Like all those newly married pics of all your friends that you have seen.

My question to you, my married readers (Hyph Hephner, this means you) is why the heck do married people take such pains to dress up the day after? Just coz mummy and daddy and all the pals on the block are coming over? Shouldn’t you be like.. Dishevelled somewhat? With a content smile on? Hair a mess? OH COME ON!

I do not qualify. The one time I got married, I slept in late and had to hurry up and hit the honeymoon highway. I drove. Shorts and a comfy old tee was the dresscode.

So .. WHY?

Even the greatest Bong scriptwriter couldn’t have written it better. One day I have no doubt Bhapi-daa will sing a song about The Ganguly Comeback. It is another story the song will go ‘you are my lobhar, while hitting it above cobhar’….

The Dada is back and I am glad the IT bidness has kept Ughs very busy, because of which I have been spared those nya-nya-nya-nya-i-told-yu-so posts.

He batted like a dream, fielded like a Kaif-on-one-hamstring (which is still way better than how he used to field) and in a space of a couple of months has emerged as our next great hope for the World Cup. His new found humility is a pleasant surprise. Can’t wait to see more.

I think it was 1987 that I actually jumped around the living room when Rocky Balboa gave Ivan Drago an asswhuppin in front of a whole stadium full of Ruskies.

Twenty years hence, I can honestly say I didn’t jump around my living room but I did experience the same feeling of glee when he landed those punches on Mason Dixon.

In case you know not what I’m on about, you have to watch the movie Rocky Balboa. Preferably after you watch Rocky, Rocky 2, 3, 4 and 5. You may give 5 a miss if you so feel like. I grew up watching Rocky Balboa strut his stuff and still get goosebumps when I listen to Eye of the Tiger.

Great movie, especially if you like Mr.B! A must see.

So here we were, doing another big-ass event which had a large crew. Once again, this large crew needed to communicate with each other and chose the ever-dependable walkie-talkie.

Our first tale involves a gent who’s ilk would be found around Bandra. He was heard  on the walkie saying- and this is true - ‘Where is my boob? Has anyone seen my boob’. Some choked, some pretended not to hear and those shameless laughed heartily. Turns out that our pal was looking for a bloke called Mehboob.

Most large events normally begin with a puja. All of us, from different faiths gather around in a large huddle, close our eyes and listen to whatever anyone says. It’s tradition, it’s something that always happens and it happened again. Everyone had their eyes shut when the accursed instrument blared ‘All those not there, come backstage and do puja. I repeat, all those not there come backstage, we are doing puja, please come soon’. Chuckles and embarrased grins followed. The only person who didn’t find it funny was our dear colleague - called Pooja.
