Like the old head said all week, the Aussies came through and took back their 4th World Cup trophy. The Lankans can however hold their heads up high and say they were beaten by a better team and not decimated like the rest of the world. They were on track and could have pulled it off till Sanath underwent temporary insanity. When all is done and dusted, we will discuss whether Gilly’s hundred was better than Ponting’s in the last edition Vs India and we will always remember the scare Jayasuriya and Sangakara gave the Oz bowling machine.

Like all good things in this World Cup, the end was a terrible sham. Aleem Darr ensured that the last 3 overs were completed in as much light as there is intelligence in his head. The good thing however was the Aussies celebrated twice!

And at the end - Ooh Aaah Glen McGrath. The Pigeon will be missed.
